Inclusive Organic Farming and Livelihood in Cuyambay

In 2025, the Foundation for These-Abled Persons Inc. (FTI) supported a community-led organic farming and livelihood initiative in Barangay Cuyambay, Tanay, Rizal, in partnership with the PWD Association of Brgy. Cuyambay.

The project combines organic vegetable production, skills development, and livelihood support to create opportunities for persons with disabilities and their families.

Supporting Families Through Organic Farming

The project directly supports 15 families from the PWD Association of Brgy. Cuyambay, representing approximately 36 members.

At the center of the initiative is a communal vegetable garden where members cultivate a variety of crops, including eggplant, sitaw, okra, patola, pechay, tomato, ampalaya, ube, sayote, cucumber, onion, and chili.

The garden provides members with opportunities to develop practical farming skills while producing vegetables for household consumption and sale.

Building Skills in Organic Agriculture

An important achievement in 2025 was the completion of a 16-week organic farming training course by the association.

The training strengthened members’ knowledge and practical skills in organic farming and supported the continued development and management of the communal garden.

Throughout the year, the project maintained ongoing gardening cycles, supported by regular monitoring visits and project updates conducted during the February and April 2025 reporting periods, as well as the second and third quarters of 2025.

Creating Additional Livelihood Opportunities

Beyond vegetable production, the project also supported a small business initiative operated by the association, focusing on the sale of basic household goods such as rice and eggs.

This livelihood component complements the communal garden by providing an additional income-generating activity for the association and its members.

Demonstrating Financial Progress

The association demonstrated responsible management of its livelihood resources. As of October 2025, the association had accumulated value through its cash, receivables, and inventory, with income generated through vegetable sales and honorariums.

These activities demonstrate the association’s efforts to develop multiple sources of income while strengthening its community-based livelihood initiatives.

Building a Sustainable Community Initiative

The project aims to strengthen unity, cooperation, and shared responsibility among members while supporting the continued development of the communal garden and livelihood activities.

Through organic farming training, vegetable production, and small-business support, the initiative provides persons with disabilities and their families in Cuyambay with opportunities to strengthen their skills, contribute to household livelihoods, and participate actively in a community-led agricultural initiative.

Growing food. Creating livelihoods. Empowering families.
