Accessible Housing

A total of 20 tropical cyclones are entering the Philippine area of responsibility, more than anywhere else in the world. Some of them are super typhoons that destroy houses in the Philippines. Over the years, FTI and its partners provided persons with disabilities with accessible dwellings

2011

In December 2011, when tropical storm Washi (BagyongSendong) struck, it caused around 1,200 to 1,500 deaths and catastrophe damage in the Philippines. FTI, in partnership with CBM, awarded 100 beneficiaries, survivors with disabilities, and their families accessible houses to start a new life in Cagayan De Oro, Iligan City, Philippines. A total of 7,500 sqm for their homes and a community building were built for their income generation purposes.

2012

In November 2012, when tropical storm Bopha (Bagyong Pablo) struck the Philippines, it caused around 1,000 to 1,100 fatalities and a total of $1.16 Billion cost of destruction. FTI, in partnership with CBM, provided and awarded a total of 53 beneficiaries of persons with disabilities and their families an accessible house for them to start a new life in areas in Cateel, Davao Oriental, Philippines.

2013

•In November 2013, when super typhoon Haiyan (Bagyong Yolanda) strikes the Philippines, It cause a total of 6,350 up to 6,400 fatalities and a damage of almost $3.00 Billion and the costliest damage in Philippines history. FTI, in partnership with BDO Foundation, LGF, and Local Government of Sta. Fe, Leyte awarded the 100 beneficiaries of persons with disabilities and their families a relocation and housing so start for their new life. This also includes the Multi-purpose building for the income generation facility of the community. A total of 10 Hectares was awarded to the community in Sitio Pulak, Brgy. San Isidro, Sta.Fe, Leyte.

 

2013

Resource Center for These-Abled Persons Building

On 2010, FTI and its partner CBM constructed a building for a permanent place for persons with disabilities, cooperatives, and other organizations working and serving the persons with the disability sector. With the contribution and determined action of FTI’s founding members, FTI was able to acquire the property and construct the building, which cost 8.00 Million Philippine Peso. This facility is accessible, which is not just an office but also a rental for some persons with disabilities and provides spaces for training and meeting purposes. July 4, 2012, the resource center for these abled buildings was fully operational and still serves persons with disability as room rentals, offices, training, and meetings
